Studying an EPQ

An Extended Project Qualification is begun in Year 12 and completed during Year 13 with the awarding of a half A Level grade (up to A*). An EPQ provides an opportunity for students to extend their abilities beyond their sixth form course of study, stand out and prepare for university or their future career. The research skills you will develop will equip you extremely well for university study, and naturally there is the opportunity to research something within any field of interest to you which could of course be related to an area of medicine.

Taste of Medicine Week

The Taste of Medicine week is run by The Medical Specialist Group to provide rare opportunities for applicants to gain rare clinical work experience. Applications are invited in the late Autumn, with places confirmed in the late Spring. There are usually two weeks; one in June and another in July.

Voluntary Work

During your Year 12 and Year 13 it is expected that you will undertake regular voluntary work where you will be able to get to know a group of individuals to whom you can provide support. This could be in a care or nursing home, with a young people's group or disability group or a service activity. The care you provide may be through serving cups of tea, providing a listening ear, coaching - all will help you develop personal skills.
